—New York Times Bestselling Author Connie Mason

"Pamela Clare is a fabulous storyteller whose beautifully written, fast-paced tales will leave you breathless with anticipation. Naked Edge out on March 2, 2010

It took me more than a year, but I finally finished Naked Edge, the next book in the I-Team series. The book tells Kat James’s story and that of Gabe Rossiter, who saves her life when she’s almost killed in a rockslide. It’s the longest book I’ve ever written. I didn’t try to take forever or to write more. It just happened that way. I would rather take longer and put out the best book I can than to rush through it just to meet a deadline and give you all something that isn’t worth reading. Having said that, I hope you all find it worth the wait. For an excerpt, click here.

Join me at RomCon

There’s a new romance novel convention happening this year, and it’s in my neck of the woods. RomCon takes place July 9-11, 2010, in Denver — home turf of the I-Team. I will join Christine Feehan, Anna Campbell, Carly Phillips, Cindy Gerard, Elizabeth Hoyt, Hannah Howell, Jo Beverly, Julia Quinn, Jeaniene Frost, Lori Foster, Melissa Mayhue, Nalini Singh, Susan Mallery, Brenda Novak and fellow Denver-area romantic suspense author Tara Janzen to meet with readers and talk about what we both love—romantic fiction.

The entire purpose of the conference is to bring readers together with their favorite authors and to celebrate romantic fiction. There will be discussions with authors, a big book signing, workshops for readers and lots of chances to mingle. I hope to take some of you on a tour of the area to share with you the real locations that are part of my I-Team stories.

For more information on RomCon or to register, go to www.romconinc.com.

CRW’s 2008 Author of the Year

It was one of the biggest honors of my fiction career, and I wasn’t there to receive it. Colorado Romance Writers, the local chapter of Romance Writers of America to which I belong, named me their 2008 Author of the Year. The award was given at their May conference in Denver—which I missed because I’d recently broken two bones in my right foot and couldn’t drive.

I found out about it when a package arrived in the mail holding a beautiful engraved desk plaque complete with penholder and pen. I was absolutely floored. And grateful. And humbled. But I was also really bummed that I didn’t make it so that I could at the very least thank everyone in CRW.

Answers to your most frequently asked questions

Q: Do you plan to write more books in the MacKinnon's Rangers series?
A: YES! Next is Connor's book. I plan to give Joseph his own story and Lord William, too, if my editor is interested. I envisioned five books in the series, and I'd really love to write all five.

Q. When is Connor MacKinnon’s book going to be released?
A. The truth is, I don't know. I have to write it first, and I have other deadlines to meet before I can start.

Q. Do you plan to write more I-Team books?
A: Absolutely. Natalie Benoit’s story is next. I know a lot of you love Holly — I do, too — but I'm saving Horny Holly for last.

Q. Why do you go so long between books?
A. I write two different sub-genres, plus I work full time. On top of that, I'm a very picky writer and try very hard to write the best book possible. I'd rather make people wait than churn out garbage sequels.

Foreign sales galore

There have been so many foreign sales of my titles lately that I can’t really keep up. Unlawful Contact sold to a Spanish publisher under the title Esposame, which means literally “Handcuff me.” All of my titles have been purchased by a publisher in Thailand and the first two I-Team books have been released there. Hard Evidence was purchased by a Japanese publisher and is already out. Some of the historical titles sold in France and Norway, but I can’t remember which...

Eventually I hope to have this Web site available in several languages and to have separate Spanish and German language blogs. But that’s down the road a bit.

Untamed earns a starred review in Publishers Weekly!

I was elated to learn that Untamed, the second book in my MacKinnon’s Rangers Series, received a starred review in Publishers Weekly. That means the story stood above most historical romance offering from that reviewer’s point of view. Here’s what PW had to say:

Untamed Pamela Clare. Leisure, $7.99 (368p) ISBN 978-0-8439-5489-0
The captivating sequel to 2006’s Surrender continues the tale of the MacKinnon clan, Scots forced to fight for the British in the 18th-century French and Indian Wars. The French score a major coup when they capture notorious ranger Morgan MacKinnon, best known for destroying an Abenaki village after learning that the tribe’s warriors were scalping women and children. Brigadier de Bourlamaque plans on handing MacKinnon over to the Abenaki, who promise to torture him mercilessly, unless he betrays his comrades. MacKinnon despairs, but Bourlamaque’s ward, Amalie Chauvenet, captures his heart and persuades him to spy for the French against the English. Clare’s detailed attention to the history of alliances forged and battles fought near Fort Ticonderoga adds authenticity, and the characters evolve and change with a realism that readers will love. (Dec.)

Because I spend so much time on historical research, trying to recreate the world my characters inhabit, I was particularly delighted with the reviewer’s comment about the historical value of the story. And I do hope you love the characters, because I certainly do.

Perfume designed exclusively for Unlawful Contact!

I am so excited to announce that internationally known perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has created two new scents in honor of Unlawful Contact. Dawn designs scents for Hollywood stars, New York jet-setters and Parisian socialites. Using natural oils and essences, not chemicals, she makes her perfumes by hand, one drop at a time, just as perfumers did three hundred years ago.

I met Dawn this past summer and was so impressed by her work that I asked if she’d be interested in turning the characters in Unlawful Contact into scents. She read the manuscript, took lots of notes about Marc’s and Sophie’s personalities, and then began to turn those into scents.

I went in to sniff the final results last week, and I love them! I’ve been wearing “Sophie” ever since and dabbing “Marc” on all the men in my life. “Marc” captures the scents of Colorado’s mountains together with Marc Hunter’s deep masculine sexuality, while “Sophie” captures Sophie’s sexy, sleek sophistication with a touch of innocent “fairy sprite” sensuality. The two work well together, both featuring certain musk notes that make them a “couple.”

Working with an artist like Dawn was so much fun. She and I are talking about doing it again, perhaps going backward with the I-Team series. “Julian” anyone?

The scents are now done and can be ordered from her Web site at www.dshperfumes.com. Click on Essence Oils. The perfumes are part of the Essence Studio collection. She has a variety of sizes available, including samples for under $4.
